Don’t call me nerd, but I don’t think you can’t, when you see my interests … They’re sorted alphabetically, since I won’t rank them.
Accessibility
While I have no disability preventing me from using today’s technology in its default way, many others do. And since helping people with today’s technology is one of my major goals, I do care a lot about accessibility. And especially since the European Union passed a directive, which enforces accessibility on every commercial website, I could have the time to really dig deeper into accessibility and how to make websites as accessible as possible.
My goal is to become an expert in the accessibility field.
Apple ecosystem
I don’t call me a fanboy, as for me a fanboy is someone buying all the shit from the company being fan of, regardless of actual product quality. However, overall I’m very satisfied with the products from Apple I have: MacBook Pro M1, iPhone 13 Pro, iPad Air (M1 generation), Apple Watch Series 7, AirPods and Apple TV 4K.
I like how good their devices interact with each other and how productive I can be with them. Won’t consider switching to something different anytime soon.
Fitness & Sport
It’s important for me to do fitness on a regular basis. Not only do I like how it looks if you strengthen your body, it’s also good to stay healthy and to provide an alternative for sitting on the table or laying on the couch. Aside from doing core training and some kind of body building (all from home), I usually go biking with my racing bike in the summer months.
My Dog
Got my dog during Covid after I always wanted a dog and used the second lockdown here in Germany to teach her the basics. She can be very stubborn and not very needy for love – typical for Shiba Inus – but I still love her.
Smart Home
It started with one single Philips Hue light bulb and was rather limited to light sources up until I moved into my own home. Now, equipped with a Home Assistant instance on my NAS, more light sources, presence sensors, smart switches, window sensors, thermometers, hygrometers and especially smart thermostats, it becomes really useful and actually starts being smart and more automated than ever before.
System Administration
I started using my first own server when I was 16. I was inexperienced and first used a Windows machine, so I did many things wrong and wouldn’t recommend anyone to repeat that. But since then, I’m improved a lot. Even though it can take many hours for something new to implement, I love to play with servers and even can provide hosting for it.
WordPress
With 2016, my actual deep dive into WordPress was a bit later than many, but I love how easy WordPress can be extended. And I love its (PHP) documentation. Building plugins and themes since then as well as managing many WordPress instances, from smaller ones like this one or large multisites with more than 1.500 sites is pure fun for me and I’m happy to be able to call it my profession.
